One of the most important archeological sites found on the Maltese Islands, more specifically on the Island of Gozo, in Xaghra, one finds the Ggantija Temples. Ggantija temples are also listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and they date back to 3600 – 3200 B.C.

In Maltese, ggant, which was derived from the word giant, gives the name of these huge free standing monuments, Ggantija, which are still in a good state of preservation, some of the megaliths are over five metres high and they weigh over fifty tons.
